The blood pressure

Blood pressure is the force of the blood pumping from the heart, as it contracts, against the arteries. This pressure makes blood flow possible. Our body cells, tissues, and organs need this blood flow to get their vital oxygen and nutrients to stay alive. There are two different types of blood pressure that we measure, Systolic and Diastolic.

systolic and diastolic blood pressure meanings:

  • Blood pressure is written in the following format: Systolic/Diastolic. For example 120/80
  • Systolic (The higher number): blood pressure while the heart contracts. It is pressure on the artery wall during heart contraction.
  • Diastolic (The lower number): is a blood pressure on the artery wall while the heart is at rest between beats.

Normal blood pressure numbers:

  • A normal blood pressure level is less than 120/80 mmHg. Blood pressure normally rises and falls throughout the day.

Please note that diagnosis of high blood pressure must be confirmed with a medical professional. Consult with your doctor if you see any unusual blood pressure readings.
